When do you get your exam result?

The exam is digital and marked automatically. That means you don't wait for an examiner, and the answer comes quickly. Your exam centre will explain exactly how and when you'll get it.

What you'll find out

Whether you passed, and how many you got right. The pass mark is 26 out of 34 scored questions on samfunnskunnskapsprøven (social studies test) and 24 out of 32 on statsborgerprøven (Norwegian citizenship test).

You won't get a list of which questions you answered wrong. The exam reuses the question bank, so the answer key isn't published.

If you passed

The result is documented, and that's the documentation UDI asks for in your application. Keep it safe.

Remember the rule about language: if you passed samfunnskunnskapsprøven in Norwegian, it also covers the knowledge requirement for citizenship. If you took it in another language, it counts for permanent residence, but not for citizenship.

If you failed

You can register again, with no waiting period. You'll pay the fee again.

The most useful thing to do then isn't to read everything again, but to find out where it went wrong. Take a practice exam while it's still fresh, see which competence goals you're missing, and read up on those.

Don't send your application before you have the result

It sounds obvious, but people expect to pass and plan around that. If you have a deadline, build in margin for another attempt.
