How to register for the test

The steps

1. Find a test centre. Test centres are usually linked to the adult education service in a kommune. You're not tied to the kommune you live in.

2. Check their test dates. Tests are held on fixed dates, not whenever you like. Popular dates fill up, especially before summer.

3. Register and pay the fee. The kommune sets the price, and it varies a lot. Payment is part of registration.

4. Bring valid ID. With a photo. Without it, you won't be let in.

The most common mistake

People look for registration with UDI. UDI handles residence and citizenship applications and has nothing to do with the test itself. The test belongs to the kommune.

It sounds obvious, but the two things get tangled up in people's minds because both need to be in place for the same application.

Register in good time

Two reasons. Dates are limited, and if you fail, you'll want time for another attempt before you submit your application. If you register for the last test before your deadline, you have no margin.
