Where can you take the exam?

The exams are held at test venues, usually linked to the adult education centre in a kommune. It's not UDI, and it's not a government office.

You choose yourself

You're not tied to the kommune where you're registered. You can sign up wherever you like, as long as the test venue has space on a date that suits you.

That gives you two things to work with:

Price. The fee is set by the kommune and varies from 600 to 1,300 kroner in our overview of 57 kommuner.

Date. The exams are held on fixed dates, and they fill up. If your kommune's next exam is in six weeks, the neighbouring kommune might have one in two.

How to find them

Look up the adult education centre in the kommune, or contact the kommune directly and ask for the test venue for samfunnskunnskapsprøven (social studies test) and statsborgerprøven (Norwegian citizenship test). We also keep track of exam dates and fees per kommune.

The season matters

It's not evenly spread across the year. Some months have very few exams, and in some periods there are hardly any at all. If you need to meet an application deadline, it's worth checking the dates early rather than assuming there's always an exam next month.
