How long do you have for samfunnskunnskapsprøven (the social studies test)?

You have maximum 60 minutes for samfunnskunnskapsprøven. The same applies to statsborgerprøven (the Norwegian citizenship test).

Is that enough time?

For almost everyone, yes, with a good margin. 38 questions in 60 minutes works out to about a minute and a half per question, and a multiple-choice question with three options rarely takes that long once you know the material.

The numbers from our own practice exams point the same way: half finish in under 16 minutes, and four out of five in under 30. That's a practice situation, not exam day, so allow a bit extra for nerves, but the picture is clear. Time is rarely the deciding factor.

When time does become a problem

One situation: you take the exam in a language you're not confident in. Then the time goes into reading the question, not thinking about the answer.

That's worth taking seriously when choosing a language for samfunnskunnskapsprøven. If your Norwegian is good enough, it's an advantage to take it in Norwegian, because that then also covers the requirement for citizenship. If you're unsure, your own language is the safe choice, and a pass is a pass.
