What happens if you fail the exam?
You can retake the exam. As many times as you like. There's no upper limit and no quarantine period lasting several months.
What actually happens
- You get your result, showing how many you answered correctly.
- You register again with a test centre.
- You pay the fee again.
- You take the exam again, with new questions.
Point 3 is what makes failing expensive. The fee is set by the kommune and, in our overview, ranges from 600 to 1,300 kroner. Two attempts at full price is more than most people planned to spend.
What you should do between attempts
Don't just read everything again. Your result shows you where things went wrong, and that's what you should focus on.
The fastest way is to take a practice exam straight afterwards, while it's still fresh, and see which learning objectives you're actually missing. Then read up on those, and only those, and take a new practice exam to see if it stuck.
No deadline hangs over you
There's no time limit tied to the exam itself. The deadlines that matter are UDI's, and they relate to your application, not to when you took the exam. So you can take the time you need to get ready, instead of registering again too early and paying the fee two more times.
