Is samfunnskunnskapsprøven hard?

Short answer: it's manageable if you've practised, and you can't guess your way through it.

The numbers

You need 26 correct out of 34 scored questions, around 76 per cent. You can get eight wrong.

With three answer options, pure guessing gives you around 11 correct. That's nowhere close. So the exam requires real knowledge, but it doesn't require you to know everything.

What makes it hard

The details, not the topics. Most people know that Norway is a democracy. Fewer know that elections happen every four years, that the kommune is responsible for the GP scheme, or who to contact in a specific situation. The options are often almost right.

The breadth. The curriculum has 25 competence aims, from health and school to working life, equality, history, and law. You can't bet on just one topic.

The language, if you choose wrong. If you take the exam in a language you're not confident in, you'll spend your time understanding the question instead of answering it. For samfunnskunnskapsprøven you can choose, and you should choose the language you actually read best.

What makes it easier than people think

The format is simple: three options, one correct, no free text. You have 60 minutes, and most people use less than half of that. And the syllabus is public and free: the curriculum states what can come up, and the official course material covers it.
