Democracy and elections in Norway

This is the topic people think they know well, and where they still miss the details.

What's covered

The three branches of government. The Storting passes laws and the state budget, the government governs, the courts judge. The questions often ask who does what, and the answer options are almost right.

Elections. Who can vote, how often elections are held, the difference between parliamentary elections (stortingsvalg) and local elections (kommunevalg).

Human rights. Freedom of speech, protection against discrimination, and what these mean in practice.

The common trap

You know the principle but not the number or the body responsible. Knowing that Norway is a democracy doesn't help when the question is how often parliamentary elections are held, or who is responsible for a specific task.

That's exactly why practising with questions works better than reading alone: it's where you discover that you thought you knew something.
