Tax card and tax return
Tax is part of the syllabus, because the whole welfare model depends on it. The goal of tax-funded welfare is one of the heavier topics on the test.
Tax card
Determines how much tax your employer deducts from your pay. You get it digitally, and your employer retrieves it themselves.
If you don't have a tax card, tax is deducted at the highest rate. You don't lose the money, but you won't get it back until the settlement.
Tax return
The settlement, once a year. It's usually pre-filled, and you check that it's correct.
If you've paid too much, you get money back. If you've paid too little, you have to pay.
What people miss
That the tax return is your responsibility even though it's pre-filled. If something is wrong or missing, it's up to you to correct it.
What this has to do with the test
The questions ask what tax funds and which authority does what. The Tax Administration, NAV and the kommune (municipality) have different roles, and the test's answer options often use that distinction.
