How many questions are there on statsborgerprøven?

You get 36 questions on statsborgerprøven (the Norwegian citizenship test). Of these, 32 count towards your score.

HK-dir puts it this way: candidates get 36 questions, but only 32 count towards the result, because four new questions are piloted during the exam.

Why four don't count

The question bank needs to be renewed, and new questions must be tested on real candidates before they can be used to decide whether someone passes. Otherwise no one knows if a question is too difficult or poorly worded. The four aren't marked, so you don't know which ones they are.

What this means for you

Your pass mark is 24 out of 32, which is 75%, not 24 out of 36. So the exam is slightly stricter than the total suggests.

And as with samfunnskunnskapsprøven (the social studies test): if you come across a question that seems odd, don't spend five minutes on it. There's a real chance it doesn't count.
